Healthcare Access

Every year, millions of people die from preventable or treatable conditions because they cannot access timely, high-quality healthcare. In the United States, there are approximately 27 million people who remain uninsured, creating barriers to early diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey (ACS), the percentage of uninsured Americans varied significantly by state, ranging from 2.8% in Massachusetts to 16.7% in Texas, which shows that access to healthcare is still heavily influenced by location and resources.

Medical Research

Due to medical research, as stated by the National Institutes of Health and the American Cancer Society, from the 1950s to the present:

• The 5-year survival rate combined from all types of cancers has increased rapidly by 49%.
• Global life expectancy has increased from 46.5 years to 72.8 years.

Because of medical research, advances in therapeutic processes have been established, leading to great increases in human cancer survival rates and life expectancy.

Community Equity

Groups that are marginalized based on ethnicity face severe health disparities, lowering their quality of healthcare and their access to basic healthcare services. As cited by the 2021 American Community Survey:

• Black individuals had an uninsured rate of 9.9%
• Hispanic/Latino individuals had an uninsured rate of 17.7%
• White individuals had an uninsured rate of 6%
